Well, somehow it's already well into February and we're just getting to writing and sending this. Which is good, because it means we're busy with work, but bad because we know how much you look forward to knowing how your friends at Jordan Law are doing.
We're all great! Thanks for asking. How's your year going so far?
Now that the pleasantries are out of the way; onto the newsletter. This month we're going to take a swing by our new website, check in with the boss, and then go over a few movies we think you'll enjoy. So scroll on down and have a readthrough. You won't be disappointed.
Our New Website
If you haven't swung by our website lately, now is a great time to do so. We've just gone through a pretty major overhaul and the new site looks great. It's also a lot easier to navigate and there aren't as many broken pages as there were on the old site. So that's good for our clients and friends as well.
So, come on by and give it a look. Don't forget to check out the blog and the new posts we're putting there. Feel free to subscribe so you'll get the new articles when they're posted, and please, give us a shout if there's something you have a question on, or if you find a typo (because we're sure there are still a couple hiding in there.) Thanks!
From Jordan's Desk
If you're like me, you are already shocked that it's February and you're still struggling to write 2019 every time you have to put the date on something. But here we, are almost 2 months into this New Year!
Hopefully, you're getting your tax documents together and looking forward to nice big return and that you had a great Valentine's day. As part of that second topic, I want to talk about traditions a little bit.
My wife and I have had the same tradition for Valentine's Day for the last 5 years. Instead of going out for a super fancy dinner amid all the hubbub of V-day, we stay at home and each of us makes 2-3 ridiculous over the top dishes for each other. We've done everything from black and white cookie bread pudding to cheese stuffed garlic knots to 14-hour smoked ribs, and everything in between.
Now that we just celebrated our first valentines day with our baby, we got to talking about traditions and the role that they play in modern day life. Whether it's when and where you open Christmas presents, who cooks the Turkey at Thanksgiving, or anything along those lines, it's important to have some traditions. At least for me, it gives me something to always look forward to as a holiday is approaching and really drives home the point of holidays - spending quality time with the ones you love and those who matter most to you!
So here is my ask for you - either email me at Jordan@Jordanlawfl.com with your favorite family tradition or please take 5 minutes and come up with a new tradition you want to start with your family moving forward and let us know what you're planning to do.
We'll publish some of the best ones in next month's newsletter (anonymously of course!). In the meantime, please enjoy the rest of your month and if anyone wants to come out and support a good cause on 3/9 we will again participating in the OCBA Law Day 5K. You can sign up for the Jordan Law team at the OCBA site, the money goes to help legal aid, and anyone who signs up for our team will get a free Jordan Law Dry Fit shirt to wear at the race like these:
Lawyers in Love
Valentine's Day may be over, but love will continue on forever...
So yeah, we could be totally cynical and make this a whole post about how the divorce rate for those who get married on Valentine's Day is a lot higher than the general population. A LOT!
But we're not going to do that. Instead, we wanted to highlight a few of the great romantic comedies about lawyers in love. Why? Because romcoms are an underappreciated art form and these movies need your love!
Going back 70 years now, we have one of the original romantic comedies in 1949's "Adam's Rib." One of the classic Hepburn Tracy joints, this courtroom drama pits two married lawyers against each other in an amusing, if inaccurate, courtroom drama.
Based on the real story of two lawyers who ended up getting divorced and then marrying their respective clients (yes, that happened) this film did forward the idea of a woman being a lawyer, which was a big stretch for the 40s.
In his first film after playing 007, Pierce Brosnan plays a divorce attorney going up against Julianne Moore in one case after another. After traveling to Ireland in a high-profile case, they end up falling in love and "getting married."
Of course, there is more drama on their return to New York and the relationship falters, followed by another trip to Ireland and a big revelation. They end up together in the end, but that's how all romantic comedies end, so we didn't really spoil anything there, now did we?
Not as much on the legal side and more in the sci-fi realm of romcoms, Domhnall Gleeson is an English Solicitor (that's British for Lawyer) with the ability to travel through time. He uses this skill to "find love" rather than something useful, like helping me find where my son left his favorite T. Rex.
In a series of meet-cutes, because time travel, he starts and lives a life with Rachel McAdams. Through the movie, he makes mistakes and corrections and generally comes to terms with life and his odd ability.
Of course, we have to put this classic on this list. It's technically a rom-com, it has law school antics, lawyers reviewing files, and even a relatively decent look at how a case is run.
We'll agree that the "bad guy" big shot lawyer probably is more of a cliche than anything you'd deal with in real life, but there are bad lawyers out there, so maybe we're wrong.
For those who haven't seen Legally Blonde, welcome, this is Earth. To those who haven't seen it in a while, give it another watch. You'll be surprised by how much you enjoy it.
Driving Slow in the Left Lane
Have you ever been stuck behind someone driving slowly in the left lane? Did you know that driving in the left lane and impeding traffic was illegal in Florida?
Attorney Andrew Abreu was recently featured in the local news discussing why it's illegal and what we can do to help if you're ever given one of these rare citations. Check him out in the video above.
If you or someone you know has been pulled over or issued a traffic ticket then call the lawyers of Jordan Law. We have the knowledge and the expertise to handle any matter. Just pick up the phone and dial:
